Our Frausted Life

Anchors aweigh!

HE’S HOME!

After what was a long yet short summer, NIK RETURNED HOME. It was a beautiful day, and I didn’t leave with a sunburn! Haha! I was so oddly nervous that morning. Butterflies and all! But once I got to the pier, I didn’t have them anymore. It was just pure anticipation of seeing Nik. I got there about twenty minutes before they pulled in – it was PERFECT timing. Watching the tugs help turn the ship around was something so awesome to witness. Seems simple (the logistics), but seeing it in person is just incredible. Seeing Nik walk down the stairs from the brow seemed surreal. He was about the 12th person off and so many were watching. It was special. I just couldn’t believe he was with me in the flesh – no longer are long texts or email threads trying to describe our day. No more phone conversations just hoping he’d have enough wi-fi to last. We were in each other’s arms once again. He made it safely home, and I’m incredibly grateful to God and the crew of the USS Frank Cable.

We are still getting used to a schedule and meal planning. All summer long, I ate girl meals and snacked. I didn’t keep a lot in the house and really focused on my health and eating well (portion control). I NEVER ate at a fast-food restaurant ONCE. I mean, that’s a VICTORY. So having him home has been different (and my stomach isn’t faring well through it all as I eat things I haven’t had in months). We are also trying to get into a good routine and schedule. It may seem super strange as we are approaching our sixth year of marriage, but he’s had his schedule for more than half the year and I’ve had mine. I’ve been without Nik more this year than I’ve been with him. Wild, huh?

Right now, I am not doing much outside of the house. Not if it doesn’t include him. I just can’t leave him. I don’t want to be without him. I’m not sure when that urgency will wear off, but if you’ve ever been in the military or a part of a military family, maybe you’ve experienced this after a deployment.

We got to attend the 250th Naval birthday bash at this year’s Navy Ball here in Guam. It was a lot of fun. I always really enjoy getting dressed up and being arm candy for my handsome husband. They had guest speakers, videos, large sparklers, cake, tons of food, and lots to drink (if that’s your thing). It was great to see so many of our Cable family dressed up and just enjoying themselves dancing and dining. I was telling Nik that I wished we had one more to attend here before we left.

In our next season, we are looking at pulling back from things that haven’t been too fulfilling in our lives and really enjoying the time we have left on Guam. It has been an incredible journey, and we’ve grown to really love this island and the community here. There are some things that most do in their first month here that we have yet to do, so we really want to take time for us and to really embrace all we can of Guam before we leave.

We have orders, official, hard orders to our next duty station, but we’ll share all about that soon. We’re very excited, but also a little sad that our time in Guam has gone by so fast.

Well, that is my little update. We are doing well and getting into the groove of this next chapter. We look forward to all that the Lord has in store in these last months here.

We do want to send a HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who prayed for us during this deployment. It is by the grace and mercy and love of God we were able to thrive during these near 5 months. Your prayers covered us and protected us greatly, and we will always be so thankful for you all. God is so good.
